When you think of a children’s dentist in Mt. Pleasant, you might not automatically think of “advanced technology.”
Many pediatric dentists don’t always have the chance to move ahead with new technology, so it’s understandable that you don’t always associate the two.
At our practice, however, we commit ourselves to providing only the best dental technology available in South Carolina. It’s important to provide the best care possible for our patients, and new technology helps us make smiles even brighter.
We live in an era where cutting-edge dental care has never been more accessible, and we feel it’s our duty to provide that technology to all of our patients.
For adults, it’s easy to find an attractive crown or implant that matches the natural color of our teeth. If you needed a crown or implant tomorrow, you could get something aesthetically pleasing and affordable.
For children, this wasn’t always the case.
Thankfully, we have access to Zirconia crowns. Our practice was one of the first providers in the area for Zirconia crowns, and Dr. Randy has invested his own time in continuing education so he can provide great care for his young patients.
Before Zirconia crowns, pediatric dentists really only had access to stainless steel crowns. For children with a chipped or broken tooth, the steel crowns weren’t ideal– not only did they look like metal that didn’t match the rest of their teeth, but they often didn’t fit very well, either.
Fortunately, Zirconia crowns are a very durable solution for primary (baby) teeth, and they also mimic the color of natural teeth. You really can’t tell the difference.
Zirconia crowns help children feel better, both because their teeth are functional again, and because their winning smile is restored to greatness.
Not every children’s dentist in Mt. Pleasant offers Zirconia crowns, but we know learning the technology is more than worth the effort.
Another one of Dr. Randy’s favorite pieces of technology is the water laser.
For our patients and their parents, it’s a welcome addition to our tool-chest.
Though the water laser has many advantages, the biggest advantage comes from how precise and non-invasive it is. During many treatments, the water laser cuts away less tooth structure than a standard dental drill.
That means, there’s much less pain and, by proxy, fewer shots are required. Kids love it when you tell them they’ll only need one shot. They love it even more when you tell them they won’t need a shot at all– which is often the case with a water laser!
The water laser is also perfect for performing a laser frenectomy. A frenectomy is a procedure that releases the tongue from its connective tissue on a “tongue tied” infant. This allows the baby to breastfeed successfully.
This procedure was once done with a scalpel, and often required stitches afterwards. With the water laser, there’s barely any bleeding at all since it cauterizes the incision. There are also no stitches required!
After a quick laser frenectomy, we’ve seen many mothers be able to successfully nurse their babies, just minutes after the procedure. They’re always extremely grateful.
Learning new technology takes time and effort, but we don’t believe in getting stuck in the past and doing things “the old way” just because we’re used to them.
Dr. Randy is fully committed to mastering new pediatric dental technology to provide his patients with the best possible care.
We strive to make dental care fun at our practice. For preventative care and checkups, we offer oral sedation, movie glasses, and digital radiography.
Not every children’s dentist in Mt. Pleasant is as committed to technology as we are. But whenever we hear one of our patients say they had fun at the dentist, or even “that wasn’t so bad at all,” we know we’re doing the right thing.
With any luck, we’ll never stop learning, and we’ll never stop investing in new dental technology.
