If you didn’t catch our 2016 Candy Buyback event, you really missed out! It was a lot of fun. Specifically, it was more than a half-ton of fun.
You see ^ that? That’s all candy! More than 1,000 pounds of it. We’d like to give a shout out to South State Bank for sponsoring the shipping for Operation Gratitude.
We collected 1,060 pounds of candy in a little over three hours. That’s a new record! That’s so much candy that only the strongest man in the world would be able to lift it all.
All of this candy was donated to former or current service members of the U.S. military through Operation Gratitude, and we are supremely grateful for everyone’s participation.
Operation Gratitude sends more than 200,000 care packages every year to America’s veterans, first responders, as well as active duty members.
Memories from the 2016 Candy Buyback
We had all sorts of fun things going on during the Candy Buyback event. There were games, crafts, face-painting, and our friends at Sweetgrass Selfies even made a visit. Take a look at the fun time we had!
Water Mission International
You brought in a lot of candy, but that’s not all you did, Mt. Pleasant.
We also took the opportunity to raise money for Water Mission International, an organization based in North Charleston that helps people around the world gain access to clean drinking water. After the recent destruction of Hurricane Matthew, they have been working tirelessly to help Haiti rebuild.
During our Candy Buyback, kids were able to donate $1 or more to Water Mission International and they received a coupon for a kid’s meal from Cracker Barrel. Mt. Pleasant children raised a bunch of extra candy for WMI. Great work!
We’d also like to extend our congratulations to the Stoudenmire family! This clan of marauders were the winners of our Halloween costume contest. They’ll be collecting their booty from Sweetgrass Selfies, who will provide a one hour party booking. Yaaarrrrrrrrh, mateys!
This Year’s Candy Buyback Was a Smashing Success
By any metric, the 2016 Candy Buyback was a success. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the contributions from our Mt. Pleasant community, The Smiles by Dr. Randy team, our friends and family, and all of you that took the time to attend our event is what made it possible, so thank you.
